“Here goes another one of Emile’s inspirational posts.” * CUE EYEROLL* Calm down, I’m just going to tell a story about something that millions of people avoid. K?
A couple of weeks ago I was at a resort, but the pool wasn’t heated. I know…first world problems. The obvious first step was to dip my toe in to test the water and let’s just say it was a “no from me dawg” (in my Randy Jackson voice). The second step was to get over it because the alternative was to sit in the hot sun sweating my life away. The third step was the hardest. Over the next 3 minutes, I slowly descended into the pool until it was finally up to my chest. Then it hit me…I’m fine and this feels good! I fully immersed myself underwater and proceeded to splash around the pool like a little boy. Part of me wishes I would’ve just jumped in, but fear prevented me from getting to that joy faster.
So what’s the purpose of that story you may wonder? It’s simple. My fear of being uncomfortable (in the cold water) almost caused me to stay in a more uncomfortable situation (the 98 degrees heat) because the initial shock of the new situation was scary. Let’s bring this away from the resort and the pool now. How many of you are unhappy in your situation or unhappy yet comfortable, but afraid to take the plunge to change your situation? I’m telling you to TAKE THE PLUNGE!
Now when I say this, I just mean stop giving in to whatever fear or mental blocks are holding you back from going to the next level. Use common sense though. I’m not saying quit your job with no back up plan or quit only to make a lateral move. I’m not saying leave your partner. Definitely don’t want anybody saying “Emile told me to ‘take the plunge’ and that’s why I messed around with John. NO! I’m saying figure out what it is you want to do and/or identify things in your life you want to fix and then say what steps can I take to make this happen?
Remember the first step was to dip my toe in the water? Well guess what?! It’s going to shock you! Everybody is not going to be on your side or believe in you. Some people will be rooting for you to fail. Your confidence will be shaken. You may lose people who are close to you. But tell me this? Would you rather live a comfortable life knowing that you didn’t live to your fullest potential or will you do everything you can to create an extraordinary life that can only happen by taking the plunge? Take the plunge with me and let’s continue to transform our lives. Don’t be afraid. Remember that even if you can’t plunge yet, you can slowly descend, but you MUST take the first step.
